Don't you wish there were a way for the So Cal travelers to keep in touch during the long, tedious trek up the 5?
No problem! We invite you to participate in the CA PBL Twitter Road Trip Project - SFBLC 2008 edition. Using our favorite new social media tool, Twitter, all travelling chapters can stay connected on Friday and Saturday during their journey's up the 5 freeway. The concept is simple, useful, and unlike anything you've ever done before! Nor Cal chapters, don't feel left out! YOU CAN GET INVOLVED TOO! Just jump in where you can! For a few of what's going on, visit: www.twitter.com/capbl for real time updates!
How will this work? Ready...set...GO:
1. Send a text message to 40404! Messages should look like this:
@CAPBL There is traffic on the 5 and 14 freeways in the Valley! Beware!
Diana Truong, VP of Communication & Technology will retweet (repost) all of your @ replies all weekend long.
Everyone should send in any kind of messages you would enjoy posting. Traffic reports, random sightings (obscure animals? weird billboards? celebrities? etc?), silly messages (ie: Richard is snoring!, messages to the other travelers, any current thoughts, etc), and just anything you want to post about your journey.
2. Picture Challenges!
Picture challenges will be put out every 2 hours. This requires that you create a Twitpic account (see below). Tweet your pictures to @capbl. Diana will tweet the picture challenge of the hour from 10am - midnight on Friday and Saturday and on Sunday evening on the drive home.
3. Documentation on the CA P-BLOG
We will document the entire Twitter Road Trip Project - SFBLC 2008 Edition here on the CA P-BLOG! Diana will be interviewing any participants that are excited about the project during SFBLC to be included in the Blog! Come find her if you would like to contribute!
Now.....HOW DO WE DO THIS....?
First thing's first: GET ON TWITTER!
- If you have a twitter account, be sure that you can text in your updates! Also, be sure to follow CAPBL on your device.
- If you DON'T have an account, HURRY! go to www.twitter.com and sign up right away!
- After you create your account, go to: www.twitter.com/capbl and click the FOLLOW button.
- Then, go to SETTINGS > Devices >
- turn ON device updates >
- add in your cell phone number (don't forget to add the +1 at the beginning)
- on your device, text ON CAPBL
- for a quick and easy guide to Twitter commands, visit: http://help.twitter.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=75
For this project to work, Twitpic will be vital! This is a way for you to post pictures on Twitter from your phone! Visit www.twitpic.com to quickly create an account and obtain your "email address". From then on, send a picture message to that email address and include any text in the SUBJECT LINE of the email. Tweets (aka any message that you post) will look like this:

QUICK TWITTER TUTORIAL....
- ANY message that you want to be included in the Twitter Road Trip Project must begin with: @CAPBL
- When using twitpic, you MUST put all text in the SUBJECT line
- Tweets (posts) can only be 120 characters long! Abbreviate when possible!
- You will see: RT @username a LOT this weekend. RT is an abbreviation for RETWEET which is basically just reposting someone else's tweet (which is the only way that you are all going to receive each other's updates!)
- Twitter is free to sign up but each message is a text message so be prepared to spend a lot of text messages this weekend (sending AND receiving especially!)
TECH SUPPORT!
If you need any help setting up twitter or have questions along the way, you can call or text Diana Truong, VP of Communications and Technology at 714-757-7207 or Michelle Nakaji, Western Region VP at 951-205-9293.
Can't wait to see this project unfold! Be alert for the first picture challenge of the day starting at 11:30am !
